Candace Crosby worked as a psychotherapist and educator for her professional career.  She also was a writer, her various works included commentary on Montana Public Radio, parenting column in the Missoulian, and author of the book, Waves in Deep Still Water.  She also participated in three art exhibits at Dana Gallery and Holter Museum where her written words were juxtaposed with visual artists’ photos and paintings.

After retiring from her practice Candace began exploring mixed media work of her own.  Her materials include handcrafted pigments from flowers and rocks, painted and manipulated papers, and stitch work.  In these primarily abstract works her aim is to depict emergent states of mind: foundational and changing symbols, seeds present as potential although not yet manifest, collages conveying transformation, new possibilities of form.  Each piece is a slow dialogue with the materials, a response to “what happens next” rather than a preconceived idea for the work.
