Longhorn Herd captures & celebrates the quiet confidence and enduring spirit of the American West. The longhorn has always represented resilience, having survived harsh landscapes and changing times through adaptability and strength. In this painting, they move almost as one with the prairie, standing calmly among wild grasses and flowers beneath a sky that feels vast and alive.
Rather than focusing on fine detail, I wanted to capture the feeling of being there. This is what I first saw/felt when I saw this herd. The shimmer of afternoon light, the movement of the breeze through the grass, and the peaceful rhythm of animals at home on the land.
Thick, expressive layers of paint allow the landscape and the cattle to merge together, suggesting that they belong to one another. The longhorns are not simply subjects placed within the scene; they are part of the character of the land itself.
