Description
Smoke Break is a tribute to the small pauses that exist inside hard work. The moments where time slows, the land surrounds you, and for a few minutes the only thing to do is sit in the saddle and take in the world around you.
What makes the painting powerful is the contrast between the quiet subject and the energetic paint. Thick palette knife textures and bursts of color in the foreground echo the untamed beauty of the prairie. You can smell the sage, dust in the air, and leather creaking in the saddle.
