Description

Band of Horses is a meditation on movement, memory, and the unspoken bond between land and life.

The horses are a living force: shifting. merging, and surging together like weather across an open plain. Their forms emerge and dissolve through layered gesture, suggesting motion. spirit and structure. I wanted the viewer to feel the thunder of hooves without needing to see every leg. You can also sense the energy of a herd: viscerally. instinctively, all at once.

Growing up in Montana, horses were never just animals to me; they were companions to the land itself. They carried history, labor, freedom. and survival.

The colors echo both the physical landscape and the emotional one: the push and pull between wildness and belonging, chaos and cohesion. The abstracted marks allow the horses to exist in multiple states at once: past and present, seen and remembered. Some feel as though they are charging forward, others dissolving back into the ground from which they came. This tension reflects my own relationship with place and memory: how the West is carried inside us long after the moment has passed. how movement itself becomes a form of storytelling.
