Description
For many Indigenous peoples, the buffalo is far more than wildlife. It represents abundance, gratitude, and the sacred relationship between people and the land. That reverence has long inspired my work. I started this piece as a sketch in Yellowstone National Park (where I have for over 30 years).
I took those sketches and color studies to the studio. I wanted to create the whole painting in a texture that feels like a bison hide. My hope is that American Buffalo invites the viewer to pause, reflect, and recognize not only the beauty of this magnificent animal, but also the enduring spirit of the American West and the importance of preserving the wild places where it still roams.
