Sculptures
My clay works are fluid expressions of grace inspired by nature, shells, flowers, rock formations, the human body, and more. These forms often delve into abstraction. They are not utilitarian, but connote embracing, comfort, intrigue and hiding.
The larger pieces evolve from slabs of clay, cut in strips, hand coiled along the piece a few times, then set aside to firm up before more layers are added. Some works are finished with glaze and some with paint.
Paintings
These paintings were inspired when I paid attention to my dreams and saw a sky blue lake underground. I asked a geologist friend about aquifers and learned there is one under every river. Under Missoula, a clay layer holds a vast freshwater aquifer. Some of the water beneath us takes a thousand years to travel from Hellgate Canyon to the Bitterroot River. We must honor and care for this water.
