Janet Sullivan first realized her passion for art when she was shown around the home of renowned artist Gerard Curtis Delano on a family vacation to Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Since that moment Sullivan worked diligently to pursue her career as an artist. She graduated from the University of Colorado, with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree with a minor in Environmental Conservation. She worked for the Forest Service until she relocated to Montana in 1981.

Janet’s landscapes capture the fleeting beauty of the American West free of human influences. She challenges herself to communicate the color, form, atmosphere and lighting of a specific place. Her landscapes depict ethereal
skies, crystalline rivers and haunting fires. During the summer months she paints on location for information to be used on enlarged paintings in the studio. In the winter, Sullivan expands her imagination by painting colorful skyscapes, tonal
paintings and contemporary paintings with subjects ranging from abstract to
realistic subjects.

Sullivan’s love of painting has led her to a 45-year career as an artist. Janet’s work has been included in invitational art shows across the West. She was awarded artist-in-residencies at Crater Lake National Park, Oregon and with the Great Bear Wilderness by the Hockaday/Artist- Wilderness-Connection program.  Sullivan was juried in as an Associate member of the Women Artists of the West.
